Mauritius Island

An island in its natural state

Ile Aus AigrettesTired after a week of hard work.  Feel like getting a breath of fresh air and being at one with Nature? L'Ile aux Aigrettes, a limestone islet of 25 hectares, will be your haven of peace.  It can only be reached by boat from the Mahébourg Bay in the south of Mauritius.

Managed by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and declared a nature reserve, this island is home to rare plants such as the "bois boeuf" (Gastonia mauritiana), the "bois de chandelle" (dracaena concinna) and the "bois de pipe."  Endemic animals and birds such as pink pigeons and reptiles such as the green Gecko or the giant Aldabran turtle can also be spotted.

Like the other popular tourist sites in Mauritius, L'Ile aux Aigrettes also has its own shop, located on the central plateau of the island from where one can buy a souvenir of the visit.
