New Year - Tuesday 1st January

Thaipoosam Cavadee - Tuesday 22nd January: on this occasion, the Tamil community shows their devotion to Muruga god.      

Chinese New Year - 7th February: (1st day of the lunar Chinese year, in January or February).  It is the most important festival; it's the equivalent of Christmas for the Chinese. 

Maha Shivaratree - Wednesday 5th March: a pilgrimage walk up to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, the Ganga Talao.    

National Day - Wednesday 12th March: Mauritius Independence Day  

Ougadi - Monday 7th April: Telegou New Year

Labour Day - Thursday 1st May

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Friday 15th August 

Ganesh Chaturthi - Thursday 4th September: dedicated to the elephant-headed god Lord "Ganesh."

Eid-Ul-Fitr - Wednesday 1st October: a feast day for the Muslim community which marks the end of Ramadhan (the exact date depends on the visibility of the moon).   

Divali - Tuesday 28th October: the Hindus celebrate the festival of light

Labourer's Day - Sunday 2nd November

Christmas Day - Thursday 25th December: celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ 

 

School Holidays

1st term: from 07th April to 22nd April

2nd term: from 14th July to 12th August

3rd term: from 09th November to 10th January
