Thaipoosam Cavadee - Tuesday 22^nd January: on this occasion, the Tamil community shows their devotion to Muruga god.      

Chinese New Year - 7^th February: (1^st day of the lunar Chinese year, in January or February).  It is the most important festival; it's the equivalent of Christmas for the Chinese. 

Maha Shivaratree - Wednesday 5^th March: a pilgrimage walk up to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, the Ganga Talao.    

National Day - Wednesday 12^th March: Mauritius Independence Day  

Ougadi - Monday 7^th April: Telegou New Year

Labour Day - Thursday 1^st May

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Friday 15^th August 

Ganesh Chaturthi - Thursday 4^th September: dedicated to the elephant-headed god Lord "Ganesh."

Eid-Ul-Fitr - Wednesday 1^st October: a feast day for the Muslim community which marks the end of Ramadhan (the exact date depends on the visibility of the moon).   

Divali - Tuesday 28^th October: the Hindus celebrate the festival of light

Christmas Day - Thursday 25^th December: celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ
