The lighthouse of Albion: a guide to the ocean

PhareAlbion is located along the North West coast of Mauritius, and is well known for its lighthouse in Pointe aux Caves.  The road from the village of Petite Rivière to the lighthouse is lined with sugar cane fields, and when they are in bloom, one imagines oneself in a wheatfield. In the area around the village of Camp Créole, a road sign shows you the way to "Belle Vue, Phare."

After a five minutes drive the lighthouse appears out of nowhere.  One side of the path is bordered with huge trees and old houses and on the other side, one can spot cliffs where the caves of "La Pointe aux Caves" are nestled.  The air is fresh and humid.  The sound of the waves breaking gently against the rocks and the whisper of the wind peacefully lulls the visitors. The 30 metre high lighthouse is still operational and acts as a guide for the ships coming into the harbour.  A rough gem that is worthy of a visit.
