Fishermen who come to La Ferme’s lake to enjoy a pleasant moment are never disappointed. Situated between two towns, it is surrounded by orchards and wild vegetation. A change of scenery is guaranteed and to top it all off, the fish bite well!
The sun hadn’t completely risen when Georges had already started getting his equipment out on the banks of La Ferme. This reservoir, nestled between Rose Hill and Bambous, in the west, is appreciated by fishing amateurs.
Georges puts on his rubber boots and steps into the water. He is passionate. A while ago, he bought himself a lightweight metal fishing rod, equipped with a reel. This purchase has never let him down.
He uses white bread in order to lure the fish. There are endless ‘tilapias’ and carp and they do not turn their noses up at the bread. The hook whistles up into the air and lands down in the water. The fishing has started! There is no need to have a permit in order to fish around here. Although there is no official fishing season, people generally prefer to come in the summer. They make the most of it by picnicking in this rocky region, at the foot of the neighbouring mountain, the Corps de Garde.
Little by little, more and more people arrive. They use fishing rods made out of bamboo and worms, dug up along the road, as bait. The fish go wild. Some fishermen venture out into the water, all the way up to their waists. They have plastic bottlenecks suspended around their own necks. They use these funny looking necklaces as recipients for their bait.
