BIENVENUE DANS LA COMMUNE DE : PLAINE DES PALMISTES

All southern inhabitants drive through the Plaine des Palmistes to reach Saint-Denis in order to avoid daily traffic jams in the west. Situated between the northeastern and southern regions, at 1000 metres in altitude, the Plaine des Palmistes benefits from a mild and wet climate. A wide range of hiking trails allows you to discover its luxuriant vegetation. The breathtaking views compensate for the muddy paths!

A beautiful mansion houses the “Archipel des métiers”, which is a training and promotion centre for handicrafts. Many artifacts are on sale. The house in itself is worth the visit. Originally built in 1927, it was entirely demolished and rebuilt exactly as before, in 1992.

Parc Forestia

Le Bassin des Hirondelles
No particular difficulty is encountered when strolling at “Le Bassin des Hirondelles.” 180 meters ascent, it’s a quiet path upon which wide wooden stairs follow one after the other. It is acknowledged that it rains quite often at the Plaine des Palmistes. As a result, the paths become quite muddy. Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter as it is worth a tour. And it’s only mud! Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit.
